A Yearly Visit by an Anhinga BirdApril 14, 2020
An Anhinga bird is affectionately called the Snake Bird because of how it swims in the water. The bird is the size of a heron but the body in the water looks like a snake. The bird has beautiful markings and a long black neck. Every year an Anhinga visits our pond in the winter. It is a coastal marsh bird but moves inland during the winter months. Sometimes it stays for several months from January – March. Other times he is here for a couple of days. This year he is late. I saw him for the first time yesterday. Years ago when he first started coming I painted him on a stump in the water. It sold soon after that. Revisiting it again today. I might have to paint him again.
