Hunting Island Lighthouse
May 5, 2020Hunting Island Lighthouse was built on Hunting Island in 1859. It was destroyed during the civil war and was rebuilt in 1875. The unique feature of this lighthouse is it was built with “interchangeable” cast iron sections.
So in 1889 the beach erosion placed the lighthouse structure in danger. The lighthouse was “taken apart” and moved more inland.
